‘The Coach House’ Material Exploration

Our Grade ll Listed Building project in Clapham Common is progressing.

On site today, we're taking a thoughtful approach to material selection, working closely with our client to understand how different finishes interact with the property's natural light. By observing materials in situ, we can better appreciate how surfaces respond to changing daylight conditions, revealing subtle variations in texture and tone throughout the day.

Our vision centers on creating a harmonious living environment through a carefully curated palette. The interplay between natural stone and timber forms the foundation of our design strategy. These materials bring inherent warmth and authenticity to the space, while their contrasting textures create visual interest without overwhelming the senses.

We're particularly focused on how stone surfaces catch and reflect light, creating subtle variations as the sun moves. The timber elements add depth and warmth, complementing the stone's cooler tones and creating a balanced dialogue between materials. This minimal approach – using just a few key materials – allows each element to breathe and contribute meaningfully to the overall composition.

By limiting our palette, we're ensuring that each selected finish serves a purpose in the broader narrative of the home. The result will be a space that feels both sophisticated and welcoming, where natural materials and thoughtful design combine to create a truly livable environment..

More information on the project coming soon.
